Ballyfermot college was entitled to send a delegate to the Union of
Students in Ireland annual congress, but the BCFE Student Union failed
to represent its students.

Jenny Little said: “[The] issues they’re dealing with are not relevant
to Ballyfermot”.

Adding: “The Student Union needs more people power”

FACT FILE: What is the USI?

The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) is a coalition of Student
Unions, although it does not represent all college unions.

It was set up in 1959 in reaction to student dissatisfaction of its
predecessor the Irish Students Association. The Union porliferated the
idea that young people had a key role to playin education and society
in general.
Today the USI claims to represent 250,000 students in
over 40 colleges. The body works to promote an open and fair education
to all Irish students regardless of race, class, religion or sexual
orientation.

The USI holds their Annual Conference every Easter over a 4-5
period; where student delegates debate and vote on issues concerning
students.
